Software
with depth.
Built with care.

I’m Bobby, a software engineer at PNNL. I design, develop, and implement complete systems—from requirements through integration, testing, and ongoing support. My work spans web applications, hands-on device integration, and persistent game systems.

Sea of Storms

A roleplay-focused Wheel of Time game running continuously since 1998. Head administrator since 2006 and C/Linux developer since 2021, I take new systems and legacy improvements from requirements and design through implementation, testing, and ongoing support.

Pacific Northwest National LaboratorySoftware Engineer 2 · 2021–present

I joined PNNL as an intern during my senior year at WSU, became a Software Engineer 1 after graduating in 2020, and was promoted to Software Engineer 2 in 2021. Across these roles, I’ve worked on the connections between applications, equipment, and usable data.

Developer to lead developer · NSDD Portal

Over six years, I progressed from developer to lead developer of an inherited Zend application for international device support. I migrated Windows VMs and SQL Server to Linux VMs and MySQL to reduce costs while maintaining the portal, supporting new features, and responding to headquarters requests. I later handled data handoff, archival requirements, and the portal’s retirement.

Lead software development · MCDC

For the Multi-Purpose Cargo Data Collector (MCDC), detector readings needed to become part of a larger system. I led software integration of gamma and neutron detectors for radiological detection of passing train cars.

Detector integration · Hardware & software · Radiological detection

Test events & data preparation

At drug-screening device test events, vendors needed data they could use to improve their algorithms. I worked with government agencies and commercial vendors to collect data from scanned items, then reformat and package it for that next step.

How I work

From the first question
to a working system.

I start by understanding what people need to accomplish and how the system will fit into their work. Then I carry the solution through design, development, integration, testing, and ongoing maintenance. That applies to both new systems and changes to established platforms.

I use GitHub Copilot and Codex extensively, adapting to new AI tools and agents as they emerge to increase productivity, improve development workflows, and strengthen the reliability and security of existing projects.

A little more about me
01

Understand & design

Translate real needs into requirements, define the system’s boundaries, and plan how its parts fit together.

02

Develop & integrate

Build the software and connect it to devices, data, interfaces, and existing systems.

03

Verify & support

Test behavior and failure paths, document the result, and maintain it as needs change.
